Xmas Competition 2019

Christmas comes early to Marton Meadows.

With an abundance of festive figures bedecked in Santa & Elf Hats and snow flurries on the first tee, there was more than a hint of the North Pole about the golf course during our Xmas Competition on Saturday 14th December.

The weather outside is frightful…

Spirits were high, carols playing & wine mulling as the first of our players donned Santa hats and made their way out onto the first tee, where snow machines added a festive flurry to proceedings. Little did we know that Jack Frost was watching closely and clearly doesn’t like to be outdone by technology!

Chad Parker, manager of MMGC, said: “We were pleased that the morning of the competition dawned clear & bright and with bacon butties under their belts, not to mention one or two mince pies, and the promise of further festive food at the Halfway House everyone was looking forward to playing in the competition.”

White out - Xmas Competition

He continued: “The first 9 holes were well underway, with lead groups already starting out on their second rounds when temperatures suddenly dropped, skies darkened and our snow machines were made redundant with a complete, all natural, white-out!”

…but the festive food delightful!

Festive Food

The sudden & dramatic change in the weather conditions was relatively short-lived, however,  given that the emphasis was firmly on fun for our Xmas Competition all players agreed that the lure of hot, mulled wine, turkey muffins and pigs in blankets was too great and winners would be decided over the first 9 holes – leaving more time to enjoy the festive food in the Clubhouse!

The competition took the form of Stroke Play and prizes were awarded for first place and runner up with with fun, festive extras for Nearest the Pin and the Best Christmas Jumper.

Congratulations to all our winners:

Charlie Sheldon celebrates his win with Sam Proctor & Chad Parker.

Lee Foley – First Place and Charlie Sheldon – Runner Up. Winners took away cash prizes with Lee Foley also awarded the Xmas Trophy. Lee’s name will be added to the Cup which will be displayed within the Player Lounge in the Clubhouse.

Marton Xmas Competition Trophy

Shout out also to Karl Needham – Nearest the Pin and Tom Bridges – Best Christmas Jumper; both walked away with Celebration Chocolates.

All players received an early Christmas Present and were presented with Golf Simulator Vouchers, giving them FREE entry for up to four players in our New Virtual Golf Facility, launching in the New Year.

Thanks to all that took part in our Xmas Competition, we Ho-Ho-Hope You Enjoyed It as much as we did…A Very Merry Christmas to You All! 🙂
